What I'm currently playing while on my hiatus from WoW ^^
Really enjoying it atm, though it may not be to everyone's tastes. Playing through the tutorial is absolutely mandatory as it has an incredibly steep learning curve and is unapologetically hardcore, right from the start. Which made a really nice change for me compared to a certain other game's unending mission to become as noob friendly as possible.
The game world is basically the scope of an entire galaxy (over 7,500 star systems), and is entirely player-driven. Everything in the galaxy is player created (within the exception of the relatively small NPC central hub and starting area - known as high-sec space). So, every ship you buy, space station you dock at .. all controlled and built by players and player corporations (ie guilds) within the game.
Professions in the game can range anywhere from being a Miner, Trader, Manufacturer to Pirate, Bounty Hunter, Soldier and more. You can go down any path you want, and ignore any part of the game you don't want to get involved in. Eg, you can stay in High Sec space all the time, and just Mine and manufacture, completely avoiding any PvP activity (attacking someone in high security space = instant death from the police) or you can venture out into null-sec, become a soldier and join a coporation that's at war.. or become a pirate, killing and stealing from defenseless little miners that risked leaving the protection of High-Sec to hunt down the more expensive ores and gases.
There's a ton more scope to the game, and I've only really scratched the surface so far but anyhoo.. if you fancy a break from wow, come check it out. There's a 14 day free trial and you can download the game client directly from their site at

Sounds good except for the PvP part. I played Freelancer for quite a while, including a rather extensive mod (forgot the name of that, ran only on one server). FL is not as big as EVE, and it's following a story line (at least up to some point), but also features PvP options for those interested. Main downside was that you had to equip your ship in a rather goofy way for PvP if you wanted to get anywhere. If you didn't have a nasty pair of rocket launchers, the case was pretty much closed.
V.
P.S.: Have I ever mentioned that I don't like PvP in basically any game? ;^)

I am going to install this and give it a little try. Be nice to see how it plays, but have no plans to stop playing WoW atm, it feels good right now, much more relaxed than before.

A few of my friends play EVE and i have tried so many times to get into it... i think i've done about 3 trials now lol...
It just seems a little boring, everything is based on a "cooldown", to train your skills, you set something to train then close down the game and wait for a few days
and getting places takes way too long, but i guess they are just trying to make it as realistic as possible or something. I might try it out for a month or so when i get money/more time, to see if it gets much better after the trial.
On a plus note, its an awesomely coded game, whole thing written in python afaik, graphics, although theres not much to look at in space, are quite amazing

Yeah, I have had a look at it, and I was a bit surprised, you don't really fly the ships etc. but I will play out the trial and see whether it's worth a look.

That's exactly what makes it perfect for me at the moment, I just don't have the time to commit 3, 4, 5 or 6 evenings a week to a game like WoW. (Work + Master's Degree in the evenings = No free time
)
In EVE, when I'm too busy to play I just need to log on every day or two and update my skill training queue, then when I do have some free time to play properly I can mess about and do some missions/pirate hunting/mining etc - ironically, it's a really hardcore game that I feel I can play a lot more casually than I ever could with WoW.
It also gives me the time to get caught up on all the games I never played during my wow addiction
Company of Heroes (love this game - best RTS I've played since AoE2), Bioshock, CoD4, Crysis, Orange Box... the list goes on!!
I do plan on coming back to wow sometime though

I'm not touching a single game until Hulabaloon comes back online - its called loyalty - Crashbang style
Haha na just kidding,
What I meant to say was:
I'm still waiting for Duke Nuke'em Forever, it will all be worth it, once they make the new 'taunt' sounds available.
"Where is it?"
"Hail to the king baby!"
"Shake it baby!"
"Those alienbastards are gonna pay for shooting up my ride!"
"Noone steals our chicks.... and lives..."
With voice acting like that. I would wish Blizzard buys mr Duke Nuke'em actor to do all new boss voices in Cataclysm. No more gay dreadlords like the one in MH aka V's favorite. "You are defenders of a doom world".
EVE online sounds a lot like on of those webgames i used to play called Utopia - ofc Eveonline sounds more complicated and better. Next MMO-rpg i plan to try out is actually Old Republic by Bioware / Lucasarts. Seems like a nice game since its focusing more on story and the fact that not everyone has the time to spend 5 hours per day. WoW favours unfortunatley grinding a lot so it might be a nice change with Old Republic. Plus, I always wanted to destroy Jar-jar Binks the first time i ever heard that characther. So sith here i come!

My Duke Nukem voice-overs are notorious. ;^)
Well, I've just read an article (GDC-related) which triggered my memory a bit. Quoted was one Alexander Gianturco, espionage specialist for an EVE-faction named Goonswarm. He mentioned one event that made news last year, or 2008, not sure: one player had founded a bank, and then absconded with all funds, "just like in real life". Gianturco told a few stories about how intelligence and counterintelligence are handled in EVE, and that is so many steps past anything reasonable that I lost count very quick.
Honestly, there are people taking WoW way too serious. Compared to the EVE guys they look like nothing more than casual meddlers.
Not my idea of fun.

I read some similar things V, I have played a little bit on the trial, its ok, but I think WoW still beats it on sheer playability and learning curve.
